From 23 to 26/01/2024 four experts from the Ballistics Division realized a study visit in Forensic Institute IVAN VUCETIC Republic of Croatia, where the quality manager welcomed us and colleagues in the field of Ballistics from these meeting we were informed about following points:
- For the structure of the institute, personnel number, experience and academic qualifications of personnel in the framework of institute.
- For types and number of accredited methods in the departments that were within the Institute of Forensics where we observed a larger number of accredited methods compered to us.
- Visit through departments for work, experiences, and methods they apply to give opinions and final findings of expertise in certain fields, has been observed long experience in many expertise areas and staff with long experience.
- The most important focus of visit was mainly Ballistics department where we were informed about the laboratory work, laboratory spaces, equipment’s, personnel and examinations that they performed within the domain of ballistics including all types of firearms expertise and especially work and experience that they did in examination of determination shooting distance with chemical methods.
In general, the visit was exchange of experiences, where the experts were introduced to the application of new methods, mainly with a special focus in the field of Ballistics, namely with the experiences of examining cases related to determining shooting distance with chemical methods, where we were informed in more detail about the procedures, chemical elements and equipment’s that must be followed and used in such examinations, so it was a purposeful visit with a clear goal and objective, what we really wanted to get for our work in the future,
I believe that we have also been concrete and correct in the questions and answers we have received from our colleagues from Forensics Institute “IVAN VUQETIC”.
At the end of all that was said, thank to our supporters and donors from UNDP, without them realizing such a visits it will be difficult.
